See what web browsers are in use on your network

LANGuardian 8 introduces a a powerful new feature that enables network managers to identify what web browsers and versions are being used on the network.

Web Client Detection uses Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology to detect web browser type and version number by decoding the User-Agent string in every flow of HTTP traffic. With Web Client Detection, you can identify all applications that download data over HTTP and identify the users and systems involved. You can also detect the use of unsupported browsers and prohibited devices on the network.

What’s in it for your network?
Web Client Detection enhances security, benefits operational efficiency, and guarantees enforcement of IT policy on your network.

Minimize exposure to vulnerabilities
  • Detect which devices are being used to access the Internet and identify users of prohibited browsers (accessing the Internet on devices such as iPhone, BlackBerry, and phones running Windows Mobile is often not allowed on corporate networks for security reasons).
  • Detect machines that are running older versions of web browsers. This information can indicate that automated patching has been disabled on certain machines, with possible serious consequences in the event of a malware attack.
  • Detect known-to-be-vulnerable web clients and browsers in use on your network and identify who is using them.
  • Easily identify NAT (Network Address Translation) servers on the network. With Web Client Detection, you can see immediately see client machines that have multiple versions of the same browser originating from their IP address. Often, this is an indication that there are multiple machines running behind one IP address.
Increase operational efficiency and reduce cost
  • Machines found to be running older browser versions are also liable to be running older versions of network applications. This can slow down network application response time and hamper operational efficiency.
  • List all of the various web clients in use on the network and identify their users.

Ensure policy enforcement

  • Alert to machines that are running anti-virus programs that do not match predefined security policies.
  • Detect machines that breach IT security policies by accessing Microsoft Windows Update directly and bypassing the corporate patching server.
