LANGuardian 10 Great Features

The LANGuardian includes a dashboard feature which can be customized to address the needs of the network and/or security administrator. The dashboard can be configured with a number of trends and custom reports which look at both traffic and user behaviour giving 10 great features:

1. Current Status of the LANGuardian sensors. A sensor can be local, remote, NetFlow or Sflow based. This allows the LANGuardian to gain visibility of local and remote networks.

2. The Services Inspector is reporting that the two systems been monitored are up. The LANGuardian has the ability to check both application and network response times at regular intervals. It can also be configured to send instant alerts via email or SNMP should a system go down.

3. A number of Custom Trends have been configured which focus on WAN links to remote sites. By checking the dashboard we can see what the traffic levels are like on these links. The LANGuardian also provides drill down capabilities where the end user can just click on the graph.

4. The Security Incidents section of the LANGuardian provides an instant view of security related incidents for the past one hour. In the example above we can see that there were no ‘priority one’ events and no Windows Worms were detected on the network.

5. The Top Users Report shows the users on the network who have generated the most traffic for the previous one hour. The total column can be clicked on to get more information

6. The Top Departments Report shows which departments generated the most traffic for the previous one hour. Again the total column allows the end user to drill down to who within the department is generating the traffic.

7. The Top Proxy Sessions (By User) Report shows the top downloads through the proxy for the last one hour and also shows the user responsible

8. The Facebook – User Report shows the most active users accessing Facebook sites for the previous one hour. Also included is a drill down link for getting further information

9. Traffic Distribution shows the top applications on the network for the previous one hour. The total column allows the end user to drill down to see the clients and servers associated with this traffic. The sample dashboard shows that Microsoft Directory Services has been the most popular application accounting for almost 29% of total traffic analyzed.

10. The Auto Refresh feature will automatically reload the dashboard at regular intervals. By default the LANGuardian polls the devices every 2 minutes making it ideal for display on screens within network operation areas where the IT staff may need to keep an eye on the network status.
